I suggest a french twist. Get it done professionally, not unless you have a friend who does hair. It's a very elegant hair style. Or, just an updo. You want something different for the prom so you can remember this special nite.

My daughter has long curly brown hair and I love to fix it up. I put it in a ponytail mid back of head. (not too high, not too low) Then I kind of twist it and flip it up. Then, with like an alligator looking clip, (You can get all designs at beauty supply stores) I clip it toward the front. This way the clip is in the back, you can't see the ponytail, and you have your beautiful curls hanging backwards as well as toward your face. Of course pull a little down all the way around. Make sure you put some kind of glosser or gel to make it look shiny and not dry. When I fix my daughter's hair like that, she looks like she is ready for a pageant.

I know the feeling and the frustration. A survey of Guys published in Elle Girl magazine said that guys like girl's hair to be loose. If you want to do something awesome for prom, try getting artificial flowers, (they are cheap at mass marketing store like Walmart) and some bobby pins and pin back sections of your hair then stick a flower in the pin. It is sort of a Christine Dier in Phantom of the Opera Look. You can get the flowers to match your dress. If that isn't your style, then try putting into a high ponytail and pinning flipped sections to your scalp. Like a flower style look.

That dress is BEAUTIFUL. I would wear silver shoes - heels of some sort.

As far as your hair goes if you have long hair up dos with curls are always good for proms. If you have shorter hair you could just curl it and maybe put some pretty clips or barettes in it.

Make up I'd do whatever you usually do if you get silver shoes maybe use silver eyeshadow with black mascara and eye liner and maybe just some clear lipgloss.

Now for makeup,I think you should either go for a very natural look,or have it done to match your dress.

Try some dark blue/purple shades on the eye lids,and a natural shade on your lips. MAybe even a plummy shade if you find one that looks good.

You can also try some silvers since your shoes,and some of the dress may be silver. Put a little shadown on the crease of your eyes,and put on lots of eyeliner and mascara. For the lips,go for a more natural shade.

I honestly love the dress, but it does look a little pageant-ish fro prom, and also may be hard to move and dance around in. But I would definitely wear my hair up with some loose curls flowing the edges of face (acting as bangs) and silver would look good!!!

Ok, this is coming from experience!!!! With a strapless dress wear your hair down, at least partially!! If not, there is too much skin w/ your face,neck and upper chest, in pictures it does not look all that great! Alright i wore my hair like that for a formal Dance it was really easy. first you part your hair then make three SMALL ponytails bobby pin them to the other side of your head and then buy a pretty clip and put it where you see it on my head. i got so many complements on it! you will look fabulous trust me!

I would first try some hairstyles on your own before it is time for the prom and then if you find one you like, make sure its easy for you to do again. But it is the prom, I would defiantly just get it done, you'll know it will look good.

I don't think it's a bad idea at all. I did my own hair for prom, while my friend had hers done at a salon. Her curls fell out during the first half hour, mine lasted the whole night.

Do some practice runs before hand so you'll feel comfortable with the extensions and you'll know how much time to give yourself prom night. And give yourself a Plan B if the extensions don't work out on prom night (bun/updo/sparkly hair clip, etc).

I was wondering what other girls do with their short hair for formal dances and stuff.

My hair is dark dark brown, cut so in the back back it shows all my neck and then tapers to like chin length in the front. My bangs are short and cut across my face about an inch above my eyebrows. Kind of Egyptian/China Doll.

So, How do I tame my hair for prom?

I have been a hairdresser for almost 23 years. To be honest, you would get a better style at a salon. I know it's expensive, but having curly frizzy hair, if you want products, it's going to cost you more than $15 to smooth out the frizz and curls, and also to get that soft curl, it's not easy. I would call around to some of the older salons in your area, maybe even a little place where "little old ladies" get their weekly set. They do extremely good work, been in the business for years, and are usually alot cheaper. If you want to DIY, then get some gloss drops, some smoothing gel or gelee, get some hot rollers or a really hot curling iron. Pull your hair up in a ponytail, divide the hair just above the rubber band in half, flip the ponytail up through that hole, and it will fall loosly down the back, get someone to help you here, but take little pieces of hair, get some serious hair spray and spray the fool out of it, then while it's still wet, put the iron and curl it, hold it there for a minute or 2, then do another one. Very time consuming and might not turn out the way you wish. I would save myself the trouble, it's only prom once, and get it professionally done.

Now I get compliments on my hair all the time! Straighten your hair- be happy for a day, learn to manage your curly hair- be happy for life!

- To style your hair using the curly-girl method you will need gel, a leave in cream, and conditioner at the minimum. Some less useful, but still nice stuff would be a blowdryer, a diffuser (reduces frizz in curly/wavy hair when used with dryer), and a microfiber hair turban (to dry wet hair while sleeping or in the morning).

-The main philosophy of the curly-girl method is to not use shampoo. This may sound unhygenic but it has actually made my hair less oily and dandruffy. Most shampoos contain some of the same chemicals found in laundry detergent (aka sodium laureth sulfate or anything close to that). They dry out curly hair. Also you shouldn't brush your curly hair dry because it damages the hair and makes it poof.

- Massaging of the scalp with conditioner to remove dirt is all that is needed. It will clean everything but super clingy silicones (cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone are examples). Then rinse and spread conditioner on the outside layer of hair and the hair at the nape of your neck. Gently comb tangles out with your fingers or a wide toothed comb and rinse with cold/cool water.

- Do not brush/comb your hair after this point because it wil disturb the curl pattern (make sure you already have a part). It is also important to use gel on sopping wet hair and scrunch the hair with your fingers. Use a towel or paper towels to gently scrunch some of the water out. Then let your hair air dry or wait ten minutes and then use a blowdryer with a diffuser. Do not touch the hair while it is air drying or it will frizz!

- Use a moisturizing conditioner, such as Desert Essence Organics Italian Red Grape Conditioner (found at health food/organic stores). The combo of products that I use daily is L'Oreal Out of Bed Weightless Texturizer (comes in a black-colored tub) and then Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Gel but there are more conditioners, gels, etc. on the websites.

- Your hair may seem worse at first, but it is just adjusting. This takes 2 to 4 weeks begin working.This is hard to do if you don't read the book, or at least visit the websites. Naturally curly hair can be beautiful! Hope this helps!

As I'm saving for my college education I can't afford a hairdresser or anything but I can probably spare $20 or so for some good styling products. I was hoping to get some advice.....to start with, I plan on wearing a tiara but am undecided on leaving my hair all up or half up/half down. I have brown long curly hair (it reaches to the middle of my chest) and its naturally curly so I dont have the beautiful ringlets...lol...my hair is extremely frizzy and breaking in some places because its too dry. I tried to blowdry it to add volume which added to the bad condition I have now....its extremely thick too (has always been too thick for non-puffy ponytails) and hasnt been layered or cut or anything for over a year. my face is oval/heart shaped and I dont have any distinctive features besides blue eyes and thick eyebrows...my dress is red and strapless :) anyway, tips on good products and styles?

Get some Frizz-ease Serum (you can get it at WalMart). Also, figure out what you are going to do with your hair and practice styling it at least two days before the prom! DO NOT wait until the day of prom to decide what to do and try doing it!!!

After you wash and condition your hair, while it is still wet, you need to put some type of styling product in it - gel, mousse or spray. I think the Frizz-ease people have some new products, so look on the shelves when you go to the store.

Also, consider buying a magazine (any of the teen magazines right now) that have good hairstyle photos so you can get some ideas. You might also look online for "prom hairstyles" to get ideas.

Good luck and no matter what your hair does, have fun at prom! :)

(P.S. Remember to let the curls COOL before doing anything with them!)

For straight hair- go to Target or Walmart and get a hair relaxer. Its the one with a black model on the cover $7 bucks. And it REALLY works! My boyfriend has nappy long curly hair and we tried it on him- it worked!

ightened, seperate a section from your face (like your going to cut your bangs) rubberband that section off. Now with the rest of your hair put it up in a high PONYTAIL(cheerleader high) Then with sectioned off hair rat it out for volume. Comb it out a little and pin it back with bobby pins-pompadour style. Like Gwen Stefani's.

i would say wear your hair half up and half down, it would probably look best with a strapless dress and usually updo's are really tight and i don't like the look of most of them, they make your head look odd shaped...and that's just about the last thing you want after having to get all those pictures taken. find some products to put the "curl" back in your curly hair (shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner to help the breaking and dryness and leave-in styling product to bring curls back to life and reduce frizz) or straighten it or straighten it and then make sprirals with a spiral curler (conair has a good one you can get for like $20) don't blow dry your hair and make sure that when you rinse out conditioner you use cold water. try using products from matrix, catwalk, redken, garnier fructis, TIGI (curls rock). make sure to practice your hairstyle a few times before the big night! good luck!

Question: do you want to keep it at the length you're at right now? If you do, just get it thinned out so it won't be as thick and heavy. There are plenty of updos for long hair! You'd have so many different ways, but most need to be created by yourself ;)

you don't want it to be too poofy or you will look like " here comes suzies hair " . you don't want it to be too flat or you'll look like a q-tip head.

try making it a bit nicer than you usually wear it.

if you normally wear it down , wear it down, but with it blowdried and styled nicer than normal.

if you normally wear a ponytain, do a ponytail in a nicer style than usual. like curl it more or add a shine spray and wrap a piece of hair around the hairband.

when you come out of the shower scrunch your hair with gel. so it turns out wavy. then take some of the hairs on the side up so its like a half pony and clip it in the back. if you have bangs let them fall down on your face. its kind of like how hilary duff does it in cinderella story if you've ever seen that. except she actually curled hers. the difference with yours is that you have to scrunch your hair. when i say scrunch i mean put gel in your hand and take a section of your hair and keep pushing up, or scrunching your hair. once you pull it back add a little hair spray and your done! heres a picture of how you should pull you hair back. http://thecia.com.au/reviews/c/images/ci...

ok this is really hard to explain, but when i do it people tell me i look like i got my hair done and it only ttok me like 30 min. ok make your hair reeally curly with a spiral curler, theres a curler with an actual spiral around it.... then when your done, take a thin piece of hair around th crown of your head about 3 inches wide, and 'poof' it back..... then take the top half of your hair all around and clip it up..the curls will sprout from the top and hide the clip. then do the same with bottom half. it makes your hair llook fuller in a good way, thats why you have to use to clips. then take the ends of your curls and pin them down to your head. try to hide the pins, or it will be too muchh....but dont pull the curl striaght or the curly effect is pointless.... you can leave some curls loose, and not pinned hope this helpedd %26lt;3 ** if curls dont stay, use hairspray before you curll it, then when your done curling everything, leave it fdown and curl, then do everything above, and then spray the updo whe your done !

can't you use some clips of some kind, to rouche half of your hair up high and leave the rest down, it ,looks nice like that i think, wispy bits falling around ya face to soften the look.
